Description
In “Portraits of Thought” British artist Michael Whittle will introduce some of his recent projects based upon contemporary scientific research and diagrammatic modes of representation. He will also discuss the influence that the philosophy of science and Japanese culture have had upon both his practice and research, and his attempt to develop a diagram-based “poetics of science”.
Biographical Notes
Michael Whittle is a research assistant professor at the Academy of Visual Arts, HKBU, where he is a member of the augmented creativity lab. His research and studio practice draws upon images, ideas and data found in scientific research papers, and discussions with scientists about the concepts and motivations underlying their studies, and their methods of visualizing data.
