We are pleased to announce Shared Campus Summer Schools in 2026.

Six summer schools exploring different thematic fields—Pop Cultures, Arts & Ecologies, Socially Engaged Arts, Telematics, and Cultural Histories. These programmes offer participants a unique opportunity to collaborate and discover new perspectives within their own creative practices. An international team of lecturers accompany these explorations.

Beyond academic enrichment, these summer schools foster a vibrant environment for participants to forge friendships and expand their horizons.

Students of Shared Campus institutions are invited to apply. Please check within each summer school which institutions are supporting students participation.

Art and Society in the Age of International Art Biennales

Description

A 14-day summer programme engaging artists and researchers with the Matter of Art Biennale 2026 in Prague. It examines art’s power to address social and political realities through field visits, workshops, and collaborative projects that explore how artistic practice can act as a force for civic awareness and cultural change.

The Summer School 2026 in Prague takes place alongside the Matter of Art Biennale, which brings socially engaged and critical art into the public sphere. The programme explores how artistic and curatorial practices respond to urgent societal issues and reimagine the role of culture in shaping civic life. Participants will investigate how art engages with questions of justice, equality, and collective living, examining alternative approaches to dominant socioeconomic models.

Over 14 days, participants will immerse themselves in Prague’s diverse cultural landscape — from activist collectives and artist-run spaces to biennale projects embedded in everyday environments. Through workshops, field visits, and collaborative research, they will consider art’s potential as a tool for reflection and social transformation. The programme’s methods combine observation, dialogue, and interdisciplinary exchange, encouraging participants to explore contemporary art’s intersections with politics, ecology, and community.

The summer school aims to foster cross-cultural collaboration and develop new strategies for engaging art as a civic practice. In partnership with the Matter of Art Biennale, tranzit.cz, the Academy of Fine Arts (AVU), and Display – Association for Research and Collective Practice, the programme positions Prague as a laboratory for rethinking the relationship between art and society today.

Hacking Global Pop Icons

Description

In this summer school, a global pop icon serves as the common starting point for cultural analysis, discussing the different perspectives of the participants and from there, creating art works, performances or interventions in mixed groups towards a public pop-up event.

Pop culture is a key driver of (cultural) globalisation. It creates interconnected experiences through elements like music, film, and fashion, fostering a common set of cultural norms and values that transcend national borders. This process is accelerated by technology and media, which allow for the rapid spread of trends and content across the world, even as it can also promote resistance and hybridity.

The summer school “Hacking Global Pop Icons” takes place in Taipei. In the first part, the students get to know each other and get inputs on this years pop icon, which is decided together with the participants beforehand. The remaining time of the summer school is dedicated to practice-based transcultural and cross-disciplinary collaboration, where students will work in mixed groups towards a joint public event.

The summer school welcomes students from a broad spectrum of disciplines from fine arts, performing arts, film, pop and classic music, design, and curation. Artists and pop culture experts will provide guidance and support the participants in the realisation of their art works.

Practices in Telematic Performances

Description

An interdisciplinary course where students from various disciplinary backgrounds collaborate to create a performance across remote stages in hub locations (Singapore, Taipei). Students will explore the aesthetics, narratives, and cultural dimensions of telematic immersive performance-making through learning techniques in staging, scoring, improvisation, and performance art.

“Practices in Telematic Performances” is a 6-day intensive performing arts summer school where students coming from diverse backgrounds collaborate in connected stages located in Singapore and Taipei. They will explore and work in groups towards a final telematic performance showcase, which will take place simultaneously at both locations.

The summer school explores unique art practices and real-time performance making in interconnected, hybrid media spaces. We refer to this unique space that manifests itself between the two locations as teletopia– in reference to ideas of a democratic technological realm beyond geopolitical boundaries. It is not only a platform for students to collaborate remotely, but also the stage, medium, and concept that they need to understand and activate to execute artworks of encounter.

Students will apply and attend one of the two hub universities. The two campuses will connect online for four hours every day via a specific real-time video and audio toolkit. With an additional four hours of offline workshops, students will learn various techniques in improvisation, scoring, staging, choreography, and live visuals.

Applicants from all arts disciplines are welcome to apply, including those that are not in performing arts, but must show a willingness to perform and collaborate with others on stage.

      • Explore strategies and aesthetics of (telematic) performance-making.
      • Collaboration in a transcultural environment in an on- and offline exchange.
      • Learn specific telematic software tools and solutions to create own telemersive performances.
      • Discuss and reflect the (geo)politics and artistic potential of global network infrastructure.
