Description

Welcome to the second edition of “Out in the Loop — Global Pop Cultures Festival” by Shared Campus!

The 2nd edition of the festival is titled “The Natures of Pop” and is dealing with questions on the relation of pop culture and nature. While pop is somehow understood as artificial by definition, nature was thought to exist independently of and before humans. This dualistic paradigm needs to be (further) challenged where they become more of genuine hybrids. The programme includes a keynote by the well-known German philosopher Wolfgang Welsch, (might be fair to include a few women and non-German names) as well as Jiré Emine Gözen, Chair of the German Society for Media Studies and and Artist, Director, Designer Dorita Takido from Tokyo.

There will be various lectures on topics like the contrasting reflections of post-humanism, Organisms Democracy and animal prints, a documentary on people dressing up as animals/ better: puppies? in there free-time, a performance on Britney Spears song “Toxic” in slow-motion, concerts by None of Them and Lateena, and some of the hottest DJ’s of the local party scene.

OUT IN THE LOOP is a new festival format on global pop cultures combining academic content with artistic performances and entertaining elements to bring different audiences in exchange – reflecting on current issues and having fun do not exclude each other! While the main festival site is at Zurich University of the Arts, it includes online contributions from London, Amsterdam, Singapore and Kyoto, be it lectures, concerts or dj-sets. The long-term vision is to establish a state of the art festival format, which takes place at different locations in parallel that are connected and using synergies.

OUT IN THE LOOP is initiated by the Pop Cultures group of Shared Campus.

Dress code: Animal print! But also welcome as you are!
