Description

The symposium seeks to explore improvisation behaviours related to culture, politics, education and practice from historical, philosophical, theoretical and sociological perspectives to outline the common creative ground, possibilities, and challenges, and to compare and contrast different traditions and their approaches. The main focus of the event is to approach improvisation in music from a wide variety of perspectives and historical practices (Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary), through presentations, performances, workshops and roundtables.

Improvise! is a collaboration between Shared Campus, the Music Department of HKBU and Zurich University of the Arts.

The symposium will take place from 27-29 March 2021 and will be delivered in hybrid mode (live & online: zoom/streaming). It is free of charge for all participants and speakers; registration will open on March 8, 2021.

We are looking forward to welcoming educators, students, researchers, musicians, technicians, artists and scholars, and others across all creative disciplines from Shared Campus partners and beyond.
