Description
William Gibson’s concept of the ‘Matrix’ in 1984 presented a compelling vision of the future, where the virtual data-landscape served as a potent sociotechnical imaginary that still resonates in current notions and discussions surrounding future technologies. In contrast, the artwork ‘Matrix’ from 2010 by Rei Naito, located in the Teshima Art Museum shares the name with Gibson’s concept but takes a distinct approach in imagining a possible future. This lecture explores the contrasting reflections of post-humanism found in these works, emphasizing their differing understandings of the relationship between nature, culture, and technology.
