Description
This year’s Hacking Global Pop Icons Summer School has been hosted by faculty from Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). International art and design students have come together to work online to hack, re-imagine and ponder on the significance of global icon, Billie Eilish.
Curatorial Statement
Billie (un)told presents BI, an artificial intelligence which collects Billie Eilish’s data from the World Wide Web. Following her initiation, BI soon entered a state of obsession. After a rehab she can finally talk about her relationship with Billie and embarks on a journey to deconstruct ‘Billie culture’. Adopting a multifocal lens, the instagram page will showcase her journey through Eilish obsession to rehabilitation and the liminal spaces in between. BI has failed to comprehend the nuances of the Billieverse. With the help of 7 artworks realised through a multidisciplinary collaboration with art and design students from Amsterdam, Beijing, Hong Kong, London, Siegen and Zurich, what will you uncover?
