Description:

未来 Wèi Lái: Yau Ma Tei is an interdisciplinary, practice-based and socially engaged art education programme that took place in Hong Kong. It invited twenty students from various disciplines and cultural backgrounds to research, develop and test creative ideas for a neighborhood currently undergoing rapid change. A three-week frame allowed students to delve into various real-life contexts in the Yau Ma Tei area. Core location was a family-run recycling center and antiques shop. The place is embedded in a radically transforming urban situation and has strong bonds with the neighborhood. It reveals a rich object-based history, triggers collective memories and reflects everyday life of the local community. The students’ work was guided by the question: How can the habits and stories of the community be shared and reacted to in engaging and meaningful ways?
